Founder & CEO
Knight Vinke Asset Management
Eric Knight is the Founder and CEO of Knight Vinke Asset Management, a deep value investor and specialist fund manager based in Monaco. From 2003 to 2013, the GP of the firm’s flagship fund was jointly owned by Eric Knight and CalPERS and the fund became one of Europe’s most respected institutional shareholder activists.
Since 2013, when CalPERS’ interest was bought out, Knight Vinke has focused solely on long term value creation for SWFs and large family offices, with a special emphasis on energy and infrastructure. The firm has recognised expertise in the sector having played a leading role in many landmark transactions including the break-up and transformation of E.ON, the merger of Suez-Electrabel with GDF to create Engie, the separation of State-controlled ENI from its regulated gas networks and the merger of Royal Dutch and Shell Transport.
Knight Vinke’s investment philosophy is driven by the conviction that many institutional investors face an existential crisis as they strive to meet future obligations in the face of declining investment returns, slower growth and rising public sector debt.
As many are recognizing, the answer lies in focusing on long term value creation rather than investing passively or seeking to time the markets – but for the largest of these investors the real challenge lies in doing so on a scale that “moves the dial”. Investing strategically in large cap public equities represents one of the few opportunities for doing so without sacrificing liquidity.
